Position Summary:
Provides mail distribution services for the Social Security
Administration (SSA) office. This position follows detailed procedures
and completing several repetitious, clerical steps, such as opening,
stamping and delivering letters / packages; affixing postage to
outgoing mail and operating basic office equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Collect mail from various mail stops.
*Receive daily mail
during hours of operation between 8:00 am - 5:00pm.
*Open, date
stamp and sort incoming mail by department.
*Deliver mail to
different offices using a pushing mail cart.
*Meter outgoing mail
using mailing machines equipped with postage meters supplied by
SSA.
*Deliver administrative office supplies, photocopy paper,
etc.
*Distribute printed materials.
*Assist customers at
service window.
*Store office supply requests from various
departments for future reference.
*Sort and lift incoming mail
for distribution and dispatch outgoing mail.
*Deliver accountable
mail within one hour of its arrival.
*Assist SSA employees in
preparing materials for mailing.
*Stamps outgoing mail by hand or
with postage meter
*Re-address undeliverable mail bearing
incomplete or incorrect address.
*Must maintain a good attendance
record.
*Performs other duties as assigned.

Equipment
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
- Working knowledge of telephones, copy and fax machines and mail
metering equipment.

Mental Effort:
- Ability to think clearly and multitask.
Physical Requirements:
- Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
- Be able to reach overhead.
- Be able to work in various positions, including, but not limited
to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and
squatting for extended periods of time.
- Be able to handle, lift, pull and push materials and equipment to
complete assigned job tasks.
- Be able to handle mailbags, mail hampers, and packages often
weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Good hand dexterity. Ability to make precisely coordinated
movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate,
or assemble small objects.
- Good eyesight.
Visual Effort:
- Well-lit office environment requiring average amount of visual effort.
- Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet).
Safety:
- Follows all prescribed safety regulations to diminish accidents.
- Understanding of OSHA safety requirements.
- Knowledge of evacuation procedures and the whereabouts of exits
and fire extinguishers.
- Immediately report circumstances you consider may present a hazard
to yourself and others.
- Report any accident whether minor or major.
Security
- Must abide by all security regulations of the facility.
- Must obtain and wear a photo ID.
