Driver(s) - Part Time

Morning & Afternoon Shifts Available

Monday - Friday

Position Summary:

The Driver picks-up program participants from their daily origination point; transports them to the training location; and/or picks-up program participants from the training location and transports them home or to their end-of-day destination.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain route / pick-up directions from Program Manager or Transportation Coordinator.
  • Ensure arrival at the place of pickup in a time efficient manner.
  • Assist passengers in embarking on the van; assist passengers by providing physical support when needed.
  • Aid in loading personal items, adaptive equipment onto the van and ensuring that it is set in a proper and safe way.
  • Determine route with the least amount of traffic and mileage.
  • Drive van to the destination by following traffic rules and regulations.
  • Assist passengers in disembarking from the van; assist passengers by providing physical support when needed.
  • Aid in unloading personal items, adaptive equipment.
  • Courteously interacts with clients, dispatchers, co-workers and supervisors.
  • Check the van daily per inspection procedures to make sure that all is in good working order.
  • Perform general checks and scheduled maintenance on the van; notify Operation Manager of any concerns.
  • Maintains vehicle safety inspections and meets all safety requirements
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

Prior Experience:

  • Two years’ experience driving passenger vehicles of 8 passengers or more preferred


  • Mission driven, guided by core values and a pleasure to work with.
  • Ability to drive motor vehicles.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy and have a strong work ethic.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications, and driver’s license.
  • Must pass drug screen and background check.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record as defined in Tommy Nobis Center’s Use of Vehicle’s policy.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

Written Communications:

  • Ability to complete vehicle inspection, incident and other reports as needed.

Oral Communications:

  • Excellent ability to communicate with persons with disabilities, including individuals who are unable to understand written communication.


  • Ability to prioritize work and complete jobs in a timely manner.


  • Ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Ability to operate wheelchair lift on van.

Other Qualifications or Requirements:

Mental Effort:

  • Ability to focus and drive without distraction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate motor vehicles.
  • Good eye sight.

Visual Effort:

  • Driving in varied weather conditions.
  • Some evening / night time driving may be needed.


  • Follow all safety and traffic regulations to diminish accidents.
  • Immediately report circumstances you consider may present a hazard to yourself and others.
  • Report any accident whether minor or major.

Scope of Position:

  • Provide direction to clients in van
